Former US treasury secretary the Harvard professor is departing from the board at the ChatGPT creator, just a week after a collection of emails between him and deceased financier the accused trafficker became publicly available.

Summers stated in a statement that he was "appreciative for the privilege to have contributed, excited about the promise of the enterprise, and look forward tracking their advancement".

The former Harvard president, who previously presided over the prestigious university, announced on earlier this week that he would be withdrawing from public responsibilities due to his association with Epstein.

Email Communications

The freshly disclosed communications demonstrated that Summers communicated with Epstein until the eve of the financier's 2019 detention for accused human trafficking of young people.

In additional comments, the technology organization said it accepted Summers' choice to depart.

"We appreciate his significant contributions and the insight he provided to the Board," the organization remarked.

Legislative Background

This development arrives after both chambers of the US legislature decided on this week to endorse a measure that would compel the US justice department to disclose its files on Epstein.

The bill will subsequently proceed to the office of the White House for signature. Trump has indicated he plans to approve the bill, after modifying his stance on the subject following pressure from his followers.

Correspondence Findings

A collection of Epstein-related messages released by the House Oversight Committee days ago referenced several prominent individuals in the financier's previous network, without implying any illegal behavior by those figures.

The communications revealed that the economist and the financier regularly had dinners together, with he often attempting to connect the official to influential world leaders.

Individual Statement

After the messages were shared with the public, he stated he accepted "total ownership for my poor choice to persist in corresponding with Mr Epstein".

He added that he desired "to reestablish faith and repair relationships with the individuals nearest to me".

Professional History

The economist occupied high-level positions under Democratic administrations; acting as economic leader under the former president, and as head of the National Economic Council under Barack Obama.

He led the university from the early 2000s and continues to be a academic there. When declaring his departure from public duties previously on this week, he indicated he would continue his teaching commitments.

Additional Consequences

The former official became part of the board of the technology firm, which makes the language model, in last year - following a failed attempt to remove its CEO the company leader.
